On September 11th, the newly established home economics undergraduate program welcomed 25 new students. It’s the first home economics undergraduate program in Zhejiang province. On the morning of September 12th, the School of Economics and Social Welfare went through with ZJSRU’s mentor system reformation, a meeting was held between the new students of the home economics major and their mentors at the Yangxunqiao campus. The meeting was attended by Professor Zhu Hongyang, Executive Director of the Institute of Modern Service Industry and Head of Home Economics major, and all teachers from the School of Economics and Social Welfare. The home economics programme at ZJSRU has been transformed from a teaching mechanism where one teacher is responsible for one class of students, to a tutorial system where multiple teachers are responsible for a class of students, i.e. one tutor is responsible for five students, taking reference from the postgraduate training mechanism. The meeting also received wide attention from everywhere, and was reported by news media such as People's Daily, The Paper and Hangzhou Daily.
First of all, Professor Zhu Hongyang gave a warm welcome to the new students. She pointed out that as society develops and changes, people are increasingly in need of high-quality home economics services. The original intention of the school in offering this course was to devote itself to training leading figures in the home economics industry, pioneers of the changes within the home economics industry, and for this reason ZJSRU insisted on positioning the undergraduate home economics program as a high-end course, cultivating elite talents for future changes in the home economics industry and providers of solutions for a better life for families. Dr Guo Renhan, Secretary of the Party Branch of the School of Economics and Social Welfare and Executive Leader of the Home economics major, clarified the position of home economics at ZJSRU's organisational structure from the perspective of disciplines, emphasising the importance of ZJSRU and the society attached to the home economics major, and clarified the three directions of home economics talent training, and raised hopes and requirements for the students' studies in school. After this speech, other tutors also spoke.
The meeting came to an end with a group photo of the students and teachers, but the students' university time has just begun. We wish each and every one of them all the best in their four years at ZJSRU, and hope that they will be successful in their studies and have a bright future!
