The program of Home Economics, established in 1994, is one of the earliest universities in the People’s Republic of China to offer the undergraduate program of home economics. In 2021, it began to admit full-time undergraduate students, making it the first undergraduate program of home economics in Zhejiang Province. Serving as a key platform for the advancement of the discipline, the program is the only Executive Committee Member of the Asian Regional Association for Home Economics (ARAHE) in Chinese mainland, a leading institution in the National Development and Reform Commission’s initiative to upgrade and expand the domestic service industry, an institution leading the establishment of the Zhejiang Provincial Alliance for Industry-Education Integration in Domestic Services, and the co-developer of the “Home Economics and Future Community Joint Laboratory”. The China-Philippines Home Economics College is established to explore a “3+1” international cooperative education model (three years in China plus one year abroad). And 70% of our distinguished faculty hold doctoral degrees, possess international experience, or hold senior academic titles.

The program focuses on cultivating two types of future-oriented talents: elite talents for the future transformation of the domestic service industry and providers of solutions for a better family life. It aims to cultivate senior management, research and service talents who possess multi-disciplinary knowledge in home economics, sociology, management, psychology, and law, and are capable of meeting the growing demands for socialized, market-oriented, and digitized home services solutions. A strong emphasis on practical skills development is realized through intensive internships and practical training modules, including field research in home economics, hands-on health service training, future community scenario design, and digital home service business model development. This learning style is further enhanced by a unique “dual mentorship” system pairing students with both academic advisors and industry practitioners, supported by internship and training bases established with leading enterprises across the home services sector. Student excellence is consistently demonstrated by outstanding achievements in various scientific research competitions, such as the Zhejiang Industry-Education Integration Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for the Home Service Sector.

Career Prospects: Graduates may pursue careers as senior management professionals in family-oriented enterprises, government departments, sub-district neighborhood committees, public institutions, and future community management organizations. Career options also include positions as nursing specialists in maternal and child care institutions or nursing institution for the elderly, professional organizers with independent brands or senior household managers, professional lecturers or instructors within corporate training departments, primary or secondary schools, and early childhood education institutions, as well as operation staff for housekeeping-related internet platforms. Additionally, graduates may choose to further their studies through postgraduate programs or overseas education, or serve as teaching and research faculty in universities, colleges, and research institutes.
