“Fuli Cup” the 12thNational College Student Structural Design Contest of 2018 was closed in South China University of Technology on November 11, 2018 after 4 days’ contest. The brand-new organization mode of selecting excellent teams in provincial (municipal) zone contests to participate in national final was adopted for thiscontest. More than 700 teachers and students of 108 teams from 107 universities and colleges such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Wuhan University and Tongji University participated in the contest, hitting a record high of scale in all sessions of the contest. When compared with the sessions of the past years, the comprehensive strength of teams of this session was significantly improved, with fiercer competitiveness.
“Crown of Sunshine”, the work of our university designed by three students of 2017 Civil Engineering Specialty of Schoolof Urban Construction, i.e., Xu Tie, Zhao Jiahao and Shao Yinxi, under the guidance of two advisors, ShenHua and Lou Danfeng, and the leading of Dean Yao Jian and vice-dean of Jin Xiaoqun, won the first prize with the excellent performance of the 10thplace in total scores after the model making process, the loading and test process, the grading by experts process and the narration and defense process. Our university created glory again after winning the national second prize last year, realizing historical breakthrough. The topic of the contest was “Design and making of large-span spatial construction models bearing multiple loads”. Students were required to conduct force analysis, model making and tests to spatial structure in multiple loads working conditions such as static load, random load and mobile load. During the loading test process, only 58 teams from 108 participating teams completed the third-level loading. The competitors of our university were calm during the contest, and the model made by the competitors of our university won the first prize with the good performance of the self-weight of 93.8g and accumulated loading time of no more than 7 minutes, showing the excellence of Shuren students and winning the honor for the university.
