The program of Social Work of our university is a nationally recognized First-Class Undergraduate Program and an Emerging Specialty Program in Zhejiang Province. Established over two decades ago, the program has a strong foundation in undergraduate education. In alignment with the requirements of the Society Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee to participate in grassroots governance and prevent systemic social risks, the program is dedicated to cultivating versatile and application-oriented professionals. Graduates will acquire interdisciplinary knowledge in sociology, psychology, and management, and are prepared to contribute to planning, management, research, consulting, education, and project operations in key areas such as community governance, public services, and health management. The collaborative partnerships have been established between the program of Social Work and leading enterprises, including Qicai Group, the first Future Community operator in Zhejiang, General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to carry out cooperation activities for the program such as hands-on training, internship opportunities, and graduate recommendation initiatives. A high-quality practical teaching system has been established by relying on more than ten internship bases such as Digital Livelihood Training Center covering an area of over 1,200 square meters, Qicai Future Community, Hangzhou Social Welfare Center, Hangzhou Disabled Persons’ Federation, and Xiamen Qifu Social Work Service Center, and in collaboration with alumni organizations like Yishujia Social Organization Service Center and Hangzhou Tulips Medical Assistance and Public Welfare Service Center.
Career Prospects: Graduates of the program of Social Work enjoy broad and well-aligned employment opportunities. Career paths span government agencies, public institutions, sub-district and community offices, professional social work organizations, welfare institutions, large and medium-sized enterprises, foundations and non-profit organizations, healthcare and medical and health service institutions, as well as schools and other educational institutions. Many graduates hold leadership roles in administrative departments at the grassroots level and professional social work agencies, and many of them have been honored as National Outstanding Urban and Rural Community Workers and Leading Social Work Talents of Zhejiang Province. In recent years, the number of students pursuing further studies has continued to rise, with a considerable number admitted to prestigious universities both in China and abroad, including New York University, the University of Edinburgh, East China University of Science and Technology, and Macau University of Science and Technology, to study for master’s and doctoral degrees in social work and sociology.
