Recently, Chinese-Belarusian Bilateral International Conference on the “Application of Natural Cellulose Environmental Functional Materials in the Field of Biological Purification” was successfully held in Hangzhou. Focusing on major issues of the advanced theories, experiences and application in the fields of environmental biology governance technology and functional biology materials, the conference built a platform for Chinese and Belarusian scholars to exchange academic achievements and thoughts and share the cutting-edge technology of environmental governance, which promoted the innovation in science, technology and culture and the development of environmental industry of both China and Belarus.
This conference was presided over by Prof. Chen Jun, Vice President of Shuren University and Dr. Wang Zeyu, and more than 30 Chinese and Belarusian scholars and representatives of teachers and students attended the conference, including Dzmitry Hrynshpan, Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Cellulose Solution and Processing of Belarusian State University, Tatsiana Savitskaya, Professor and Deputy Director of the Department of Chemistry of Belarusian State University, Yao Huaiying, Researcher of the Institute of Urban Environment of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Winner of NSFC National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Wong Xiaole, Professor of Zhejiang University and Winner of NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund, Zhou Ningyi, Professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wang Jiade, Professor of Zhejiang University of Technology and National Excellent Teacher.
Prof. Chen Jun delivered a speech at the conference. He said that biological purification was the emerging environmental governance technology, with characteristics of being rapidly developing and environmentally friendly, in which, the research and development of environmental functional materials was the core technology of ecological environmental governance. Under the background of the strategies of "carbon neutrality" and “emission peak”, it was urgently required to develop environmental governance technologies and new mechanisms for environmental industry innovation and development in the field of the ecological environment, and it was necessary to promote long-term and sustainable scientific and technological innovation in the field of biological purification that multiple parties concerned. Relying on respective resource advantages, both Chinese and Belarusian universities had jointly explored and created an efficient and sustainable cooperation mechanism, which promoted academic exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Belarusian young scholars, and was a very meaningful work. He also hoped that everyone worked together to promote the innovation and development in the field of environment internationally, so that biological purification could play a greater role in the field of environmental governance.
At the conference, Prof. Tatsiana Savitskaya, Prof. Yao Huaiying, and Prof. Wong Xiaole, Prof. Zhou Ningyi, Prof. Wang Jiade, and Assoc Prof. Ye Zhiping made wonderful academic reports respectively entitled as Biodegradable Packaging as Green Alternative and New Ecological Challenge, Application of DNA-SIP in Soil Microbial Molecular Ecology, Environmental Chlorine Interference Catalysis, Microbial Degradation of Polyvinyl Alcohol, Properties of Bamboo Charcoal and Its Application in Wastegas Purified by Biodegradation, and The Application of Plasma for VOCs Abatement: Progress and Prospect, and they introduced their research progress and achievements in their respective fields, and shared their unique scientific research ideas and methods, which inspired the participating scholars to produce lots of new ideas, new views, and new measures. Dai Luyao, Yuan Bohan and Zhao Min, who were three postgraduate students jointly tutored by Zhejiang University of Technology and our university, respectively focused on pollution survey, environmental restoration and functional materials and made academic reports under the titles of Pollution Characteristics and Source Analysis of Microplastics in the Qiantang River in Southeastern China, Increasing N, N-dimethylacetamide Degradation and Mineralization Efficiency by Coculturing Rhodococcus Ruber HJM-8 and Paracoccus Communis YBH-X, and Bamboo Charcoal Powder-based Polyurethane as Packing Material in Biotrickling Filter for Simultaneous Removal of N-hexane and Dichloromethane. In the process of interactive communication at the conference, experts and scholars communicated with the students, answered questions, and gave specific advice, which benefited the students a lot. The atmosphere at the venue was very lively and the attendees also enjoyed such strong academic atmosphere. Scholars gathered together and discussed the construction and future development of functional ecomaterials, i.e., natural cellulose, in the field of biological purification.
This conference got support from the International Exchange and Cooperation Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and meanwhile, it was also “Functional Ecomaterials” Sub-forum of the Fourth Chinese-Belarusian Youth Forum. The Forum Focused on the theme of "Intelligence, Environment and Health: The Youth's Responsibility, Missions and Duties in the Global-Pandemic Era", and both domestic and overseas experts and scholars were invited to emphatically discuss the important missions of the educated youth in the process of building a community with a shared future for mankind under the background of the Belt and Road Initiative. This forum was successfully held.
