In the tide of globalization, cultural exchange shines like brilliant stars, illuminating the path toward mutual understanding among people from different nations. The first cohort of exchange students from Polotsk State University, Belarus, recently concluded their academic journey at our university through the “One College One Program” initiative, returning home with enriched knowledge and profound appreciation for Chinese culture.

This “One Program Per School” initiative has effectively built a cross-border bridge for the exchange students from Polotsk State University, enabling them to immerse themselves in Chinese language and culture. In the classroom, they listened attentively to Chinese pronunciation, studied grammar, and strived to master this mysterious yet captivating language while gaining deeper insights into China’s national conditions and cultural heritage. Traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy and the guqin (ancient Chinese musical instrument) left an especially profound impression. Practicing each calligraphic stroke not only honed their patience and concentration but also allowed them to appreciate the unique charm contained in Chinese characters. The melodic sounds of the guqin transported them through time, offering a glimpse into the refined elegance and sentiment of ancient Chinese scholars.

It is also worth noting that these Belarusian students deeply participated in our university’s Russian language class, even hosting a Belarusian cultural salon. Through mutual learning and exchange with Chinese students, they not only improved their own Chinese language skills but also helped Chinese students gain a richer understanding of Belarusian language and culture. This cross-cultural interaction fostered strong friendships among the younger generations of both countries, opening a new chapter in China-Belarus cultural exchange.

The “One Program Per School” initiative is carried out to develop and promote a distinctive model of international exchange. Through this successful cooperation with Polotsk State University, remarkable outcomes have been achieved in student exchange programs. It has not only allowed the exchange students to acquire knowledge, forge friendships, and create wonderful memories in China, but also built a more stable platform for cultural exchange between China and Belarus. In the future, we believe the “One Program Per School” initiative will continue to leverage its unique strengths, attracting more international students to China to experience the charm of Chinese culture. As the Chinese language serves as a bridge and culture as a boat, this program will help deepen mutual understanding and sail toward an even brighter shared future.
