The works exhibited this time were mainly the ones created by Mr. Lin Tao since he returned to China in 2008 and has been teaching in the School of Art of our university. “Brushstroke A Painting” in the theme was derived from the Words on Art by Shi Tao, a master of painting in the Qing Dynasty, the theory of “Brushstroke A Painting” occupies a special position and has extensive influence in the history of Chinese painting theories. Its core idea is that all laws and all things originate from and return to one, which is the beginning and the end of painting. Mr. Lin Tao took its meaning of "returning to the beginning" as the theme of the exhibition.
There were more than 70 works exhibited totally in this exhibition, mainly oil paintings, but also some acrylic paintings and a small number of sketches on paper. The paintings were mostly expressed in black, white, and gray and selective essential color combinations, presenting a simple, concise, and calm visual experience. The themes of the paintings included local customs and practices of Hangzhou from the end of the last century to before and after the liberation, the re-creation of the "paintings of the Song Dynasty" with oil painting language, the comprehensive works of portrait creation and personality topics to show the characters around, and the sketching works of some landscapes and still life.
Through these paintings, the visitors can feel the creator's artistic conception of "A Painting" of returning to visual sense, and to the pure aesthetic and expression.
