Based on systematic investigation and survey in steel structure enterprises during 2006 – 2008, it was confirmed that the shortage of professionals of steel structure became a key factor to restrain development of related enterprises, which indicated the urgency of operating the steel structure field.

The discussion meeting for experts about the reform in personnel training mode of the Civil Engineering Specialty (steel structure field) was held on September 19, 2008 (opinions by experts were formed). The “3+1” personnel training mode for steel structure field was determined.

37 students from the Civil Engineering Specialty of 2006 were selected to establish an experimental class of steel structure in December, 2008, and the “3+1” personnel training mode was adopted for the class.
