On August 17, at the 19th National College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition held at Tianjin University, students majoring in Applied Chemistry from the School of Biology and Environmental Engineering delivered an outstanding performance. With determination and courage, they competed against strong teams from across the country and ultimately won the National First Prize in the finals. This marks a historic breakthrough for the University in a national Category A discipline-based competition!
Jointly organized by the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China and the China Education Association of Chemical Industry, the National College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition has grown into a prestigious national event. Since its launch in March this year, the competition has attracted 4,337 teams from 479 universities across the country, with the number of participants surpassing 20,000 for the first time. Both the number of participating institutions and the scale of registered teams reached record highs. As a flagship competition in the field of chemical and chemical engineering disciplines, it has provided an important platform for showcasing our university’s traditional advantageous disciplines. The School of Biology and Environmental Engineering sent six teams to participate. Among them, the team “Get Rich First with Sulfone”, under the dedicated guidance of teachers Qiao Jun, Yu Zuolong, Zheng Kai, and Ge Kai, won a National First Prize. In addition, two other teams brought home a National Second Prize and a National Third Prize respectively. Furthermore, in the Zhejiang Provincial College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition, which concluded at the end of July, our students achieved a historic breakthrough, winning one First Prize (also marking the first time our university secured third place in the provincial competition, where the top three First Prizes are awarded as champion, runner-up, and second runner-up), one Second Prize, and two Third Prizes.
College student science and technology competitions provide students with a valuable platform for hands-on practice, broadening their knowledge while fostering their innovative abilities and teamwork skills. The National College Student Chemical Engineering Design Competition has been successfully held nineteen times. Since the sixth edition, students from the School of Biology and Environmental Engineering have actively participated, winning a total of 90 awards at both the national and provincial levels. These remarkable achievements would not have been possible without the strong support of the university and the school, as well as the dedication and perseverance of Shuren’s faculty and students. This year in particular, the team that won the National First Prize had been preparing with full commitment since last year. After a year of rigorous training and refinement, they demonstrated extraordinary determination and secured outstanding results in a highly competitive field, marking a historic breakthrough for Shuren students.
