The “Double Eight Strategy” is the concentrated embodiment of the germination and practice of President Xi’s Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era in Zhejiang. In the new era and the new journey, for the theme education, we must deeply learn to understand the strategic thinking contained in the “Double Eight Strategy”, adhere to the integration of study, thinking and application and the unity of knowledge, faith and action, maintain strategic concentration, observe, think about and solve problems objectively and dialectically from the perspective of overall situation, long term, and general trend. We should also think about the positioning and development direction of the university from the perspective of the overall situation of institutions of higher education in the country, seize the opportunity to firmly improve the quality and upgrade ourselves, and complete the transformation and upgrading of disciplines and majors well, and strive to achieve the goal of a “famous university run by non-government sectors”.
Specifically, it is to take the construction of new medical science as a driving force, focus on creating characteristic disciplines which are domestically first-class and internationally influential, and build the high-level innovation platform and the industry-university-research base for the integration of medicine, information technology, engineering, science and liberal arts, in order to educate a large number of interdisciplinary and innovative tip-top talents of “medical science +X” with both ability and integrity, and steadfastly move forward toward the strategic goal of a “famous university run by non-government sectors”.
The university needs to build a first-class talent team led by academicians, with interdisciplinary members and flexible mechanism; adheres to the leading role of academicians, implement the chief scientist system of research projects; adheres to the cross-discipline, build a high-level interdisciplinary team of new medical science; adheres to the performance orientation, and motivate the team through the reform of the evaluation mechanism. Being innovative and demand-oriented, the university should implement the capacity building for collaboratively tackling key problems in research in an organized way. It is necessary to adhere to be innovation-oriented, and collaboratively tackle key problems in research in an organized way; to adhere to be demand-oriented, and promote the transformation and promotion of the innovative achievements of new medical science; to adhere to be results-oriented, and implement the plan of establishing the scientific research evaluation system. The university needs to make innovation for the mode of training applied talents and build an “experimental plot” for the education reform of new medical science in China. We must actively build the high-level undergraduate programs for the major of medicine, innovate in the mode of talent training for new medical science, update the principles and concepts of medical knowledge, iterate medical education and research technology, and affect and drive the reform of application-oriented undergraduate teaching. The university should serve the strategy of Healthy China and build a high-level innovative research platform for new medical science. It is necessary to adhere to the principle of open sharing, deepen the cooperation inside and outside the university by relying on the first-class disciplines, key laboratories, social science bases and other platforms of the province, establish the health research system of the “health integration of ten thousand measures” and “One Health”, and create a comprehensive and interdisciplinary platform for new medical science that combines medicine with engineering and information technology, and with science and literal arts. The university should be globally oriented and expand new directions of international cooperation and exchange in the field of new medical science. Focusing on the establishment of new medical science, the university will enhance its partnership with the universities outside China, use the basic requirements of global medicine for reference, and reach a high level of medical education with Chinese characteristics.
