The 16th Summer Paralympic Games came to an end. In the Tokyo Paralympic Games, our student Yao Zhan performed brilliantly and won gold medal in the 20-point mixed 4×50m freestyle relay, the bronze medal in the women's 100m breaststroke SB4, the fifth place in the women's 200m freestyle S5, the sixth place in the women's 50m butterfly S5 and the seventh place in the women's 100m freestyle S5, winning the honour for her country and achieving her dream of winning an Olympic gold medal. She also won the first Olympic gold medal in the history of ZJSRU.

Born in 1997, Yao lost her ability to walk as a child due to congenital bulging spinal membrane, but this did not stop her from pursuing her dreams. Over the past 12 years, she overcame her disability and turned her hands into wings to fly freely in the water, thus starting her journey in the pool.

This trip to Tokyo was her second trip to the Olympics. She represented the Chinese Paralympic swimming team in five events, a proper model! Looking back at the Rio Olympics five years ago, she finished fourth in two events, missing out on a medal. This was both a regret and a motivation for her. Over the past five years, she has not only not missed out on her studies, but also insisted on intense training, and has participated in the 2017 National Paralympic Swimming Championships, the 2018 National Paralympic Swimming Championships, the 2018 Jakarta Asian Paralympic Games, the 10th National Paralympic Games in 2019, and the 2019 World Paralympic Swimming Championships, winning 11 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze, making every effort to move towards her dream of being an Olympic champion! And this trip to the Tokyo Paralympic Games won her 1 gold and 1 bronze, making her dreams come true!

"Having a ten-year plan is like planting a tree, having a lifelong plan is like educating a proper person". The School of Management always attaches importance to the personalised training of students and supports them to pursue their dreams! In order to fully support Yao's preparation for the Olympic Game, a tailor-made study programme has been set up for her, and an academic guidance team, mainly composed of leaders of the school and course teachers, has been formed to ensure that she devotes herself to the training for the competition without delaying her studies, and to make sure she can achieve her dream of becoming an Olympic champion!
