On the occasion of the 41st Teachers’ Day, the university received a special gift: Zhejiang Shuren University has been officially approved as a Master’s Degree Conferring Institution! Meanwhile, three disciplines and programs: Electronic Information, Resources and Environment, and Public Administration, have been granted authorization to offer master’s programs. This success in securing master’s degree conferring rights represents the fruitful outcome of 41 years of dedicated efforts in education and institutional development, marking a significant milestone in the university’s history. It signifies that the university’s overall strength, educational level, and quality have reached new heights and achieved a major breakthrough.
On September 11, Mr. Ho Iat Seng, the Fifth Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and Ms. Ho Teng Iat, former Vice Chairperson of the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as well as Honorary Director of the Eighth Board of Directors of Shuren University, sent congratulatory letters to President Li Lu separately, extending their congratulations on the university’s official approval as a Master’s Degree Conferring Institution.
Mr. Ho Iat Seng expressed his sincere congratulations on the approval of the three master’s programs, noting that “this hard-earned achievement is the result of the President’s relentless efforts and dedication”.
Ms. Ho Teng Iat stated: “It is with great delight that I learned of Shuren University having been approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a Master’s Degree Conferring Institution. The good news filled me with profound emotion! This milestone achievement not only marks an outstanding breakthrough for Shuren University in the cultivation of applied talents and disciplinary development, but also demonstrates the pioneering strength of one of the nation’s first private universities in higher education. With the vision of an educator and the perseverance of a doer, you have infused core momentum into this multi-year endeavor, a success built upon your immense dedication and wisdom. This honor vividly embodies the university’s motto of ‘upholding virtue, emphasizing wisdom, and prioritizing human cultivation’, and represents a crucial step toward the vision of ‘a prestigious private university’, driven by the Shuren spirit of ‘daring to pioneer and developing distinctive education’. It is also the greatest comfort to the university’s founder. I extend my warmest congratulations to you and all educators at Shuren University. May this new beginning of master’s program development further inspire Shuren University, under your leadership, to cultivate talents for the nation and help dreams shine brightly.”
President Li Lu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Ho Iat Seng, Ms. Ho Teng Iat, and the Ho family for their special care and long-standing support to the university since its founding. He emphasized that the successful approval of the master’s degree programs marks a new stage of development for the university. He looks forward to strengthening collaboration between the university and higher education institutions in Macao to promote more rapid and high-quality progress. He also expressed his hope that Mr. Ho Iat Seng and Ms. Ho Teng Iat would visit again to witness the university’s advancements.
The bond between the Ho family and the university has been passed down through generations. The words of Mr. Ho Tin, “Do it well, and it will thrive”, are always borne in mind by every faculty member and student. Mr. Ho Iat Seng and Ms. Ho Teng Iat have successively been appointed as honorary directors of the university and have visited the campus multiple times. Every step of the university’s development reflects the sincere dedication of distinguished fellow townsmen from Hong Kong and Macao, represented by the Ho family. Since its establishment, our university and the institutions in Macao have maintained proactive two-way interactions, with over 50 mutual visits and study exchanges. Together, they established the “Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao Alliance for the Development of Private Education”, signed the “Zhejiang-Macao Grassroots Governance Cooperation Memorandum”, and entered into framework agreements for higher education collaboration. Macao experts and scholars frequently visit the university for academic exchanges. Together, the university and Macao are composing a new chapter of high-quality development in education. Standing at a new starting point and embarking on a new journey, the university will remain true to its original mission, cherish gratitude, forge ahead with vigor and resolve, anchor itself to the goal of building a high-level application-oriented comprehensive university, and steadfastly commit to running a people-satisfied university!
