Overcoming difficulties and challenges, we’ve been stepping forward unceasingly and achieving fruitful results. On November 8th, everyone was immersed in a warm and festive atmosphere on campus. At 9:00 a.m., the 40th Anniversary of the Founding of the University and the High-quality Development Conference were held in the stadium of Gongchenqiao Campus. Teachers, students and staff of the university, alumni all over the world, and people from all walks of life who care about and support the construction and development of the university gathered together to celebrate the event.

More than 400 guests inside and outside the country, including leaders of previous boards of directors and retired leaders and professors of the university, leaders of more than 100 domestic and overseas sister colleges and universities, leaders of relevant government departments at all levels, people from all walks of life such as cooperating organizations, enterprises and media, alumni from all over the world and representatives of teachers, students and staff, attended the conference together. Nearly 70 letters of congratulations were sent by government leaders, universities and organizations, including Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the fifth Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology and Belarusian State University.

Cai Xiujun, Vice Chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, expressed warm congratulations to the university on its 40th anniversary on behalf of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC. Cai Xiujun said that in 1984, Shuren University was founded by the CPPCC members represented by Wang Jiayang, then Chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC. Not long ago, Lian Yimin, Chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, visited the university for research. In the past 40 years, Zhejiang Shuren University and Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC has an indivisible bloodline bond. Nowadays, the university is constantly improving the level of education, enhancing comprehensive strength significantly, and it has found a road of high-quality development, contributing to the high-quality development of private higher education in Zhejiang and even the whole country. He hoped that the university should always adhere to the overall leadership of the Party and firmly grasp the socialist direction of running a university; focus on serving the country and the high-quality economic and social development of Zhejiang, improve the ability of the integration of industry, university and research, and train more high-level applied innovative talents; build a high level of high-quality faculty team, and adhere to the openness of running a university. Cai Xiujun said, running a university well is not only the university's own business, but also a major responsibility of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC. The provincial CPPCC will give full play to the advantages of the functions of the CPPCC, further increase the support for the high-quality development of universities, and strive to create good conditions for the university to build a “featured university”.

President Li Lu made the speech entitled "Through 40 Years of Development, Shuren Enjoys a Prosperous Future". On behalf of the university, Li Lu expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the leaders, guests and alumni who attended the conference, paid high respect to the leaders at all levels and friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the development of the university, expressed sincere greetings to all the faculty and staff who have been working hard on teaching, scientific research, management and service, and expressed good wishes to all the students who have been studying hard and actively pursuing their studies.

President Li Lu said that, overcoming hardships and difficulties over the forty years, Shuren develops itself innovatively. In 1984, the University came into being by seizing the opportunity of reform and opening up, and embarked on the road of educating talents for the Party and the country by relying on social forces. Over the past 40 years, our university has been upgraded in terms of the scale and level of education, and Shuren has become a national benchmark for social forces to organize universities. “The development road of Shuren is a true reflection of the spirit of reform and innovation of Zhejiang people, who “do practical things, become the pioneer, and take a leading position”. As the only university founded by the provincial CPPCC in the country, Shuren also demonstrates a new road for the development of higher education of Zhejiang Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference. President Li Lu pointed out that, forging ahead with determination over the forty years, Shuren strives to develop itself. The university has always been in accordance with the requirements of the strategy of building a powerful country in education and a strong province of higher education, focusing on strengthening the Party construction, taking the discipline construction as the guide, promoting the connotation construction of the university, forging ahead to maintain the comprehensive strength of running a university in the forefront of private colleges and universities in the country. President Li Lu emphasized that, having a bright future after forty years, Shuren enjoys a prosperous prospect. Stepping on a new journey, the university should further make itself meet the strategic requirements of a powerful education country and a strong province of higher education, and the requirements of a university that is well satisfied with the people, transform the "spirit of Shuren" formed in the past 40 years into "actions of Shuren" of high-quality development, and strive to achieve the new progress of "famous university with characteristics".

Prof. Song Yonghua, representative of Hong Kong and Macao universities and Rector of the University of Macao, made a report on “Reform and Innovation of Universities under the Profound Changes Unseen in a Century - The Role and Practice of the University of Macao”. Song Yonghua analyzed the current challenges and coping strategies at the levels of human society, the country, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao, and the changes in higher education, introduced the characteristics and mission commitment of the University of Macao in the region, teaching and learning, and elaborated the practice of the University of Macao on the aspect of the SERVE framework.

Ba Denian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, served as dean of the School of Medicine of Zhejiang University and has been engaged in medical education for more than 40 years. For "educating people", he always insisted on the proposition of "being a man, being a Chinese, being a Communist". He gave this sentence to the university and wished the university to develop better and better and create more brilliant results.

Bao Jing, the first graduate of the university and director of the China Tea Museum, spoke on behalf of the alumni. She fondly recalled the early years of her Alma mater and her study experience, and thanked her Alma mater for laying a solid professional foundation for her, training her diligent and pragmatic work style, helping her complete the Beishan Street protection program, the West Lake heritage application, and promoting the spread of tea culture. At present, Bao Jing has led a number of Shuren students to participate in the successful application of “traditional Chinese tea-making techniques and related customs” as the human intangible heritage. Bao Jing told to the students that she hoped them to inherit the spirit of Shuren and be determined and engaged in educating people, wishing the Alma mater educate a large number of talents and make more educational achievements.

Mr. Koji Masui, Deputy Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Shizuoka Prefecture Japan-China Friendship Association, recalled the friendship between Shizuoka Prefecture and the university in his speech. In 1991, Shizuoka Prefecture donated 10 computers as teaching equipment, and the university set up the “Zhejing-Shizuoka Friendship Electric Classroom” thereby. Koji Masui was very pleased to see that Shuren has developed over the past 40 years into a large university with a wide range of schools and departments. He hoped that the university could further deepen exchanges with related universities and enterprises in Shizuoka Prefecture in medical care, and welcomed Shuren’s students to Shizuoka to play an active role in the exchanges between the two countries.

On behalf of the Chinese Association for Non-Government Education, Wang Lisheng, Vice President of the Chinese Association for Non-Government Education and Chairman of Higher Education Professional Committee, and former Director of Degree and Postgraduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, congratulated the university on its 40th anniversary, and was pleased with Shuren's achievements as a representative of China's private colleges and universities. He emphasized that in the face of the new requirements of the strategy of building an education power in the new era, the university should firmly establish the correct direction of running a university and implement the fundamental task of fostering morality and educating people, adhere to the high-quality development, strengthen the characteristics and level of education; continue to deepen the reform, stimulate the vitality of education, and to answer the questions of the times, “For building a strong educational country, what do the private colleges and universities have to do? What should Zhejiang Shuren University do?”. In order to create a new situation of high-quality development of private universities in China, Zhejiang Shuren University is striving to take on the mission with greater courage and vigor.

The guests and university leaders, including Li Lanjuan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Sergey Ablameyko, Fellow of the Belarusian Academy of Engineering, Shan Zhiqiang, Director of the General Office of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Li Lu, President of the university, Zheng Shusen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yang Shufeng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guo Huawei, Secretary of the Party Group of Zhejiang Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Circles, and Yu Yun, Bureau-level Official at Level 2 of the Department of Human Resource and Social Security of Zhejiang Province, unveiled the two provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms together, namely, the Key Laboratory of Artificial Organs and Computational Medicine of Zhejiang Province and Zhejiang Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Health and Public Service.

The representatives of 10 alumnus’ companies and partner companies, namely, Zhejiang Natural Resources Group Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Weiguang Electronic Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Shuanghuan Driveline Co., Ltd., Zhejiang 3Q Cable Co., Ltd., Huawei Group, DingTalk (China) Information Technology Co., Ltd., iFLYTEK Co., Ltd., Hong Kong International Medical Research Institute Limited, and Beijing Jianyan Environmental Protection Equipment Co., Ltd., signed the contracts on university-enterprise cooperation collectively.

A thanksgiving ceremony of “consecutive devotion in educating people” was also held on site.

Volunteers presented flowers and plaques of gratitude to retired leaders, professors and teachers, the local government and representatives of social elites.

The spirit of devotion in education has been passing down from generation to generation over the 40 years of history of Shuren University.
