Delegation from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Visited Our University
From November 7 to November 10, a delegation from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (referred to as “Jayewardenepura University”) visited our university to participate in its 40th anniversary celebration and a series of academic exchange events. The delegation included Professor Pathmalal Manage, the Vice Chancellor of Jayewardenepura University, Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
On November 7, President Li Lu met with Professor Pathmalal Manage, the Vice-Chancellor of Jayewardenepura University, Dean Shirantha Heenkenda, and Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama, among others. Attending the meeting from our university were Chen Zhi, Executive Deputy Director of the Academic Committee, Li Jianliang, Dean of the School of Humanities and Foreign Languages, Xia Qing, Dean of the School of Economics and Social Welfare, Liu Weiping, Dean of the Interdisciplinary Research Academy, and Wu Ronglan, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, and Lukma Wellasinghe, a foreign faculty member from the School of Economics and Public Welfare.
At the meeting, President Li Lu extended a warm welcome to Vice-Chancellor Manage and his delegation, and expressed gratitude for their hospitality during Vice President Chen Jun's visit to Jayawardenepura University in October. He highlighted the significant achievements realized within just one year of enhanced collaboration, including the memorable cultural exchange programs for students and faculty, as well as the signing of several collaborative agreements during Vice President Chen's visit: the framework for Silk Road Academy, the Chinese Language and Cultural Exchange Center (serving as an internship base for international Chinese language education), the Sino-side Laboratory of the International Joint Laboratory on Research for Environmental Exposure and Health, and the Digital Trade Innovation Center. President Li also expressed his appreciation for Vice-Chancellor Manage’s acceptance of the honorary professorship at our university, anticipating future collaborations that will leverage our university’s strengths in industry-education integration and expand cooperation from language and cultural exchange to areas such as cross-border e-commerce talent development and advanced research collaborations.
Vice-Chancellor Manage thanked President Li for the warm welcome and expressed his honor in witnessing our university’s 40th-anniversary celebrations. He congratulated our university on its remarkable achievements over the past four decades and particularly appreciated the meticulous arrangements made for the cultural exchange program involving 27 students and faculty members from Jayawardenepura University in May. He extended a cordial invitation to President Li to visit Jayawardenepura University next year, hoping to continue fostering mutual faculty and student exchanges, deepening collaborative efforts, and promoting the successful operation of the Chinese Cultural Exchange Center and Chinese Language Teaching Internship Base, the International Joint Laboratory on Research for Environmental Exposure and Health, and the Digital Trade Innovation Center. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Manage presented commemorative certificates to Dean Li Jianliang of the School of Humanities and Foreign Languages, Dean Xia Qing of the School of Economics and Social Welfare, and Dean Liu Weiping of the Interdisciplinary Research Academy, recognizing their contributions to establishing the Chinese Language and Cultural Exchange Center, the Center for Investment, Digital Trade, and Entrepreneurship, and the Sino-side Laboratory of the International Joint Laboratory on Research for Environmental Exposure and Health, respectively.
During the visit, Vice-Chancellor Manage attended the "40th Anniversary Celebration and High-Quality Development Conference," the "New Medical Sciences and Grand Health Academic Symposium," and the "Fourth China-Belarus Bilateral Academic Forum on Research and Application of Environmental Functional Materials," where he delivered a reported titled "Emerging Contaminants on Human Health and Biodiversity."
Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, gave insightful lectures titled "Country and Area Studies for International Understanding: Strengthening Ties Between Sri Lanka and China" and "Use of Technology for Value-Added Products in Sri Lankan Agriculture," respectively, to students and faculty members of the School of Humanities and Foreign Languages and the School of Economics and Social Welfare.
During their visit, Vice-Chancellor Manage and his delegation also joined other foreign guests in visiting Alibaba and participating in other cultural exchange events.
