On the afternoon of September 14, 2022, the university held the appointment ceremony for the Director of the Belarus Research Center in the Meeting Room 312, Administration Building, Gongchenqiao Campus. Wang Xianju was appointed as the director of the Center. President Li Lu attended the ceremony, issued the letter of appointment to Wang Xianju, and made an important speech. Vice President Chen Jun presided over the ceremony.

President Li first briefly reviewed the achievements of the Center, listed the positive roles played by the Center in international cooperation in the field of engineering since its establishment, and pointed out that the Center still had very big development prospects in the construction of think tanks, and its research level needs to be improved. At present, we should turn the emphasis back to the original intention when the center was established, not only continue to carry out scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation with Belarus, but also play the role of the think tank in the fields of politics, economy, diplomacy, and culture of Belarus. He highly valued Mr. Wang Xianju's practical experience, research results and academic influence in the field of Belarusian studies, and hoped that all members of the Center, under the leadership of Director Wang Xianju, would plan carefully and work hard to gain a place in the field of country and regional studies with in-depth research, and help the discipline construction of the School of Humanity and Foreign Languages, promote the development of the major of Teaching Chinese as an International Language, and advance the international communication of Chinese culture. In terms of construction ideas, President Li hoped that the Center would explore the mode of cross-disciplines and discipline integration, form new research fields and directions, and win through research characteristics.

Mr. Wang Xianju delivered his acceptance speech. He believed that with the high attention of the university leaders and the strong support of the relevant departments of the university, the center would be able to reach a higher level based on the existing development status. He shared with the attendees four ideas about the work of the Center: it needed firstly to strengthen the studies on international issues of Belarus and related fields, secondly, to develop the exchanges and cooperation between our university and Belarus, thirdly, to offer advice and suggestions for strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperation on politics, economy and trade, culture, and education between Zhejiang province, our country and Belarus (such as the construction of the Belt and Road, and China-Belarus industrial park), and fourthly, to take new steps, break new ground and make new contributions on training the talents of international studies. He also said that the Center would actively open up a new prospect on these four aspects, and make more achievements.

Mr. Wang Xianju held the positions of the Correspondent of Xinhua News Agency, China Youth Daily and Guangming Daily in Moscow, the Counsellor of the Embassy in Belarus, and the Deputy Director of the Eurasian Institute of Social Development of the Development Research Center of the State Council before. Now he is the Deputy Director and Researcher of the Russian Research Center of Renmin University of China - St. Petersburg State University.

Mr. Wang Xianju made a speech after the appointment and introduced the future work plan.

President Li Lu welcomed Mr. Wang to join the Shuren family and placed great hopes on the development of the Belarusian Research Center.
