In order to provide more aspiring young people with the opportunity to pursue higher education, Zhejiang Shuren University and Hong Kong Shue Yan University were established almost simultaneously. The two institutions, closely connected by the shared meaning of “Shuren/Shue Yan” (nurturing people) and their common ties to “Shaoxing,” have since been bound together in spirit. This bond of mutual understanding and friendship across time and space is not only an important chapter in the development of Zhejiang Shuren University, but also a vivid example of higher education exchange and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. Over nearly four decades of close ties, the two universities have conducted numerous visits and in-depth exchanges, resulting in a series of fruitful collaborations.

Mr. Henry Hu Hung-lick devoted his life to education and stands as a model scholar in the field of private higher education. Since the founding of Zhejiang Shuren University, Mr. Henry Hu Hung-lick and his wife, Dr. Chung Chi-yung, had always shown great care and support for the university’s development. They visited the campus on many occasions, offering valuable guidance, and with their broad vision and rich experience, provided tremendous support for the university’s positioning, discipline development, and talent cultivation.

Though he has passed away, his spirit will endure. Zhejiang Shuren University will continue to honor the legacy of Mr. Henry Hu Hung-lick, deepening cooperation and cultivating talents together, as we advance side by side on the journey toward building a strong nation through education. Mr. Henry Hu Hung-lick will be remembered for eternity, his noble spirit forever shining. We will always cherish the memory of this “great educator” whose heart was devoted to “Shuren”—the nurturing of people!
